>>Vanderbilt bans drug rep swag – Though it strains the imagination, there could come a day when the doctor’s office is free of pens and other swag advertising expensive brand-name drugs. Vanderbilt Medical Center is about to become the latest institution to ban gifts from drug reps as part of a new conflict of interest policy, the Nashville Tennessean reports.
The policy, to be phased in by July 1, will also preclude most employees from accepting free lunches from drug reps. Health-care systems around the country have been taking a closer look at this stuff — we reported recently on a Minnesota system taking similar steps…more
